After struggeling with myself I finally gave in and bought myself a new toy, a Lenovo MIIX 300. A cute little Intel Atom based netbook which comes with Win10 home by default – which I of course need to get rid off.
But it starts out to become, yet again, a real quest. Even it is Intel Atom based and has a regular EFI BIOS, it is also show some pretty scary behaviours. First of all be warned the EFI BIOS is only 32 bit compatible despite the CPU is capable of 64 bit instructons. The LCD’s native orientation is 90° rotated counter clockwise! And the neat keyboard it comes with is a USB device which strangely disappears when booting into Linux. An externally connected keyboard also does not work. I suspect some issues with the built-in USB hub, which must be sitting in the keyboard base unit, which is detachable. Using the EFI BIOS (pressing and holding power and vol-up) one can enter the BIOS and select an alternate EFI boot device. I tried Debian 8.3 stable but it has issues with the USB in the base keyboard unit.
Stay tuned!
