Seit Ende 2018 gilt ein Zusatz zum Personenstandsgesetz, der §45b. Nach diesem Paragraphen kann eine Person ihren amtlich erfassten Personenstand (das Geschlecht) durch Erklärung beim Standesamt in „männlich“, „weiblich“ oder „divers“ ändern lassen.
